Whether $1,400 a year is a "fair" tax truly depends on two things: the services you actually receive, and your household's financial reality. On paper, if that $1,400 covers reliable winter road plowing, emergency services, and weekly waste collection—especially if you aren't connected to municipal water or sewer systems—many would consider that reasonable value for basic rural services. However, the real issue facing our community isn't just today's baseline number—it is the unsustainable trajectory of where our taxes are heading: Fixed Incomes & Seniors: For an elderly resident or someone living on a fixed pension, even an extra $20, $30, or $50 a month can force painful trade-offs between groceries, heating, and medication. Fairness isn't an abstract dollar figure; it’s about whether long-time residents can afford to stay in their own homes. Compounding Increases: When council approves major capital expenditures that drive projected tax hikes of 30% to 40% over the coming years, that burden multiplies fast. In Tiny, where higher-assessed properties already pay well over $10,000 annually, a 40% hike means thousands of dollars in added costs. Service Delivery vs. Administrative Spending: Fairness also means accountability. Residents don't mind paying for well-maintained roads, prompt snow clearing, and fire protection. What frustrates people is seeing their tax bills rise drastically not to improve frontline services, but to fund escalating municipal bureaucracy and costly administrative projects. Fairness is ultimately about balance: delivering quality core services while respecting that taxpayers’ pockets are not bottomless. $1,400.00 seems quite fair when I consider my taxes are $4,300 on a $380 K. assessed value property.

it all depends on the level of service you recieve ... and the assesed value of your home the bottom line is we have experienced 35% increaes over the last 4 years with no correponding increase in services . its time to get back to delivering quality core services that justify your expense BACK TO BASICS
