Protecting Public Services and Municipal Jobs
Tiny Township and the County of Simcoe are home to many unionized public sector workers. As a representative of both jurisdictions, what specific measures will you take to protect municipal jobs from privatization and ensure that public services continue to be delivered by public employees rather than being contracted out to private companies? Furthermore, do you believe existing privatized services should be evaluated for potential reintegration into municipal operations? If elected, would you advocate for bringing contracted-out work back in-house when it can be shown to benefit residents, workers, and taxpayers?
Electoral platform and flooding solutions for Farlain Lake
As a resident and voter in our municipality, I am closely following the candidates' platforms, particularly regarding local infrastructure and environmental stewardship. I am writing to you today to voice a critical concern regarding Farlain Lake. As you may know, the lake has faced historic, recurring high-water levels that continue to threaten our community. This persistent flooding is causing severe shoreline erosion, damaging private property, and compromising local septic systems and water wells, which poses an immediate environmental and public health risk. Because Farlain Lake is a unique seepage kettle lake with no natural surface discharge, managing its water levels requires specialized engineering and proactive municipal leadership. Many residents feel the current administrative processes have left the community at a standstill regarding actionable solutions and cost-sharing frameworks. If elected as mayor, deputy mayor, Councillor what specific steps will your administration take to address the flooding and long-term water management at Farlain Lake? Specifically, I would appreciate your insights on: Municipal Support: Will you support funding for comprehensive hydrogeological and engineering studies to find a permanent drainage solution? Inter-Governmental Collaboration: How do you plan to work with provincial environmental ministries or conservation authorities to bypass bureaucratic gridlocks?Immediate Relief: What short-term mitigation strategies (such as permitted water-taking or emergency resources) will you make available to affected shoreline property owners? Our community is looking for a leader who will prioritize infrastructure resilience and advocate actively for the safety and investments of local homeowners. Thank you for your time, your dedication to our municipality, and your response. I look forward to reading your thoughts on this matter. Regards K. Gallagher
Recreation support
Historically community volunteers kept the outdoor ice rinks up and running, dads meeting at the rinks close to midnight sometimes to get one more flooding in. Now that the recreation department has taken over it feels like the rinks are rarely up and running from my experience in Lafontaine especially. Tiny’s policy of multiple days in a row of below some degree Celsius means the rinks are rarely attended to. I have watched so many winter days of lost fun and community building. I am looking for a candidate who will give the rinks back to the community, give the tennis courts back to the tennis community ( so difficult to play tennis on pickleball infused courts), and overall make a commitment to supporting recreation without over bureaucratizing it. Let the Picklball players have the entire Balm Beach site, it is so poorly designed with pickle ballers having to go through the tennis courts and the tennis courts squished in too close together just switch it over and put new tennis only courts in somewhere else. Who is interested in supporting and likely spending money on recreation?
